Still Image Project
Over the course of the semester, I was required to take a picture every day which fell into these categories: college, family, and home; capturing self and others; perspectives and style; and places and objects. Here are a couple of the pictures that I took throughout the semester.
This picture emphasizes the theme of Aesthetics under Cinematic Narrative which we learned about in Week 4. I took this picture at Lookout Point up on the mountain looking over CU. It embodies the spirit of nature as well as the idea of a new beginning with the way that his hands are opening up to the world.
The picture above illuminates art and space because of the location itself. I took this picture at a new popular place in my hometown Houston, Texas. This place is called POST, and it is a repurposed mail distribution center that is now a popular food court. This location was completely remodeled to create a new innovative place for Houstonians to come together as a community.
This picture shows documentation because it was taken in a completely different state when I went to go visit my friend in Sewanee, Tennessee. I wanted to document all of my time there so I took this picture as I was following them on a campus tour.
The trajectory of change between the photos that I took throughout this project was mainly tied to the difference in the themes that each part called for. I didn’t feel as if I was taking better or worse pictures, they just fell into different categories. For all of my photos, I decided to use the 0.5 zoom feature on my iPhone camera to make the series more cohesive. Personally, I didn’t want to “take better or worse pictures,” I mainly wanted to share a more cohesive story. If all of these pictures were put up next to each other in a gallery, it would be clear that they are part of a series and show each of the themes, which is what I was going for rather than making them more or less artistic. I really enjoyed this project because it allowed me to get back into photography and was in some way a sort of documentation of my first semester as a freshman at CU.
