Locative Media Project

For this project, I realized the potential that all of my audio had together, and that’s where I got the idea to make my project more dark. As I was reading Goodnight Moon I didn’t really know what I wanted to do for this project. But when I started to work on the other aspects of it I decided I should put the audio in a house and add some projections of a family in the house. The idea for the house to be abandoned with furniture still inside came to me while listening back to all my audio clips. I decided to create a story about a family who has just lost their child.

The location of my work would be an abandoned house. For this project, it would be in a different location than most other projects. Some other class projects probably have the sounds in a museum, library, or another place. But I think the abandoned house fits my project and the story I am trying to tell. The idea that I am trying to present to my audience is the sadness of an empty space. An empty place at the table or an empty room. The ability to put that in a house as well as adding projection art of the family going through different stages of their life adds more to the story. Being in an environment like that doesn’t require as much imagination and tells a greater story because the audience would physically be in the house seeing everything.
